Activities, Visits and Restaurants

La Fontaine de Faucon is located a 10 minutes walk from Goult, which has a general store, a baker, two butchers, several restaurants and a lively café.
In the heart of the Luberon Natural Park, the house provides the perfect base from which to explore Provence and the Midi. Within one hour’s drive are the Palais des Papes at Avignon, the Roman arenas of Arles, Nîmes and Orange, the bustling port of Marseille, the fountains of Aix en Provence, the antiques market at Isle sur la Sorgue and much more.
There is wonderful scenery everywhere : the purple floor of lavender surrounding the Abbaye de Senanque in July, the grandeur of the Gorges du Verdon, the silhouette of Mont Ste Victoire overlooking Aix en Provence, the big sky of the Camargue.
Close to Goult are the hill villages of the Luberon :  the sinister ruined castle of the Marquis de Sade in Lacoste, the red and ochre colours of Roussillon, the hilltop villages of Gordes and Bonnieux. Each day there is a bustling market in one of the nearby villages or towns such as the provencal farmer’s market in Coustellet on Sundays or the popular market in Apt on Saturdays.
There are a variety of sporting activities. The area is well known for cycling with the killer climb of Mont Ventoux one hour away. There are tennis court in Goult, golf at the Country Club de Provence in Saumane, and rock climbing at Buoux. The area offers walks for all levels, from a stroll through the vineyards to a major hike along the Luberon Mountain range.
For those wanting cultural diversions, there is opera in Aix in July, musical events at the Espace Cardin in Lacoste in July and August, the International Piano Festival at La Roque d’Antheron in July and August and the theatre festival in Avignon in July.
The region has a good selection of Michelin starred restaurants together with many delightful smaller places to eat. For wine lovers, the great vineyards of  Châteauneuf du Pape and Hermitage are nearby. The wines of the Côtes du Luberon, Côtes du Ventoux and Côteaux d’Aix offer excellent value for every day drinking.
